TCS: 75% employees permanently work from home by 2025

TCS is gearing up to embrace work from home extensively within the next five years. In the new approach that TCS plans to implement, the company will benefit from a model of secure borderless work space (SBWS) operation. Not only will SBWS ensure a high level of cyber security, it will also facilitate project-management practices without any adverse effect on quality.

The Indian multinational information technology (IT) services company is working towards abandoning the traditional model of maintaining vast offices and swanky work sites. It will adopt a work-from-home model for good. It is arranging for about 4.48 lakh members of its workforce to work permanently from home in India and abroad. Between the lockdowns, currently, 20 percent of its employees are already working from home, and in the next five years, the system may become permanent.

The new 25/25 approach will result in minimal use of office space, as only 25 percent of employees will be working outside their offices, while the rest will work from home. In addition, employees will spend only 25 percent of their working hours in the office and the remainder at home. In the case of team projects, only 75 percent of the team members will be allowed to work in one location, with the remainder assigned to different locations as needed. The company is confident that it will be able to achieve 100 percent productivity despite the reduced staff strength in the office.

Even amid the lockdown, the SBWS platform saw TCS holding 35,000 meetings. Over 40 lakh official calls were made and around 340 lakh messages were exchanged across the company.
