  • In an official articulation, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Burma, China, Eritrea, Iran, Nigeria, DPRK, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan have been assigned as CPC under the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998
  • Both Pakistan and China are among 10 countries exposed as CPC by the US State Department for their failure to prevent the persecution and discrimination of faith groups.

Washington: The United States on Monday named Pakistan and China in its list of ” Countries of Particular Concern” (CPC) to engage or tolerate “systematic and egoistic violations of religious freedom”. Both Pakistan and China are among 10 countries exposed as CPC by the US State Department for their failure to prevent the persecution and discrimination of faith groups.

In an official articulation, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Burma, China, Eritrea, Iran, Nigeria, DPRK, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan have been assigned as CPC under the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998 , Engage in or endure deliberate, progressing, emotionless infringement of strict opportunity. The Secretary of State further explained that the countries – Comoros, Cuba, Nicaragua and Russia – have been placed on a special watch list for governments that tolerate or tolerate “serious violations of religious freedom”.

Additionally, al-Shabaab, al-Qaeda, Boko Haram, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, Houthis, ISIS, ISIS-Greater Sahara, ISIS-West Africa, Jamaat Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin and the Taliban have been designated by Pompeo. Said 2016’s Frank R. “Entities of Perticular Concern” under the Wolf International Religious Freedom Act. He further said that Sudan and Uzbekistan have been removed from the special monitoring list based on “significant, tangible progress” made by their governments last year.
