Police arrested a priest and three male employees of a crematorium near the Delhi cantonment and charged them with murder, rape, and criminal intimidation. They have also been reserved under the relevant sections of the Child Protection Against Sexual Offenses Act (Pocso) and the SC / ST Act. Police said the girl, who lived with her parents in a rented house across from the crematorium, went to fetch water from the water cooler at the crematorium around 5:30 p.m. Sunday. The priest and the three men called the girl’s mother to the crematorium half an hour later and showed her the girl’s body. They told her that the girl was electrocuted while she was drinking water from the cooler. The four men asked the girl’s mother not to inform the police about her death. The police initially registered a wrongful death case that did not amount to murder, wrongful confinement, and destruction of evidence related to the crime together with common intent under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 304, 342, 201, and 34. After hundreds of villagers arrived at the crematorium on Sunday night and protested until Monday night, the police turned the case into one of rape, murder, and criminal intimidation
