So now the central government will withdraw land from Rajiv Gandhi Foundation? BJP MP said – PM has given instructions on his letter
Earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs has also constituted a committee of ministers to examine three trusts associated with the Congress – Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust and Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust.
The Congress has been investigated by the government on allegations of financial irregularities in its three trusts. Now BJP MP Subramanian Swamy has claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, taking cognizance of one of his letters, has ordered action on the land of Rajiv Gandhi Foundation. Swamy says that in this letter, he asked the central government to take the land on which the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation is built. According to Swamy, the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation erected the foundation on the land provided for the building of the Congress Party office. Swamy alleged that Sonia Gandhi grabbed this land and converted the land proposed for the party office into a party trust.
Significantly, the Ministry of Home Affairs has also constituted a committee of ministers to investigate the three trusts associated with the Congress. The committee will investigate violations of income tax and foreign donation regulations by Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust and Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust. The committee’s investigation will focus on violations of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), Income Tax Act, Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act by the Gandhi family trusts. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, this committee will be chaired by the Special Director of Enforcement Directorate.
Significantly, last month itself, Swamy had told a TV channel that he had exposed the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation scam in 2015. However, he also alleged that the then Finance Minister was not in favor of looking into the matter. Swamy had revealed that he had asked PM Modi to nationalize the RGF building. He had said that it is illegal for a private institution to occupy government land.
Explain that the Central Government has ordered an inquiry into three trusts associated with the Congress. While the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation was established in 1991, the Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust was established in 2002. Both are headed by Congress President Sonia Gandhi. However, the Congress has denied any wrongdoing and violation of law in the trust and termed it a political conspiracy. Only last month, the BJP accused the Congress of cheating. BJP leaders said that when the Congress was in power, the Manmohan Singh government used to donate the amount of the Prime Minister’s National Disaster Relief Fund to the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation.
